Incredible experience, coming here while it was drizzling. The tour guide was so knowledgeable. The estate has been kept so well, it feels like the Gropius family could walk in at any moment. I felt like I was making a house visit.
My favorite Historic New England home. Furnishings are amazing.
We had a great time on a snowy Saturday morning. Despite the weather, we still had seven people on the tour. We were shown everywhere except the basement and the housekeeper's quarters" (said to be offices and storage now).
Friendly staff, $15.00 for the tour though we didn't take it we walked around the property. Maybe next time we will do a tour of the place. Unique looking building and interesting history.
So glad to see they have decided to preserve and honor this architectural gem. Would highly recommend! Especially for those who have a niche for Architectural/Interior design or history. I wish they could make a few maintenance repairs given how much it costs to visit the house (i.e. glass blocks in the entryway were broken) but aside from that, its a great stop to add to a tour in New England. Staff were all very knowledgable and served as great resources as well.
I'd been to the Bauhaus museums/schools in Weimar, Dessau, and Berlin. This place continues that story of the students and the proliferation of their work into the mainstream. Really amazing and enriching experience, wow. Marcel Breuer once lived down the street.
